Port Stephens Accommodation

Port Stephens is a great destination for viewing the amazing humpback whales this winter.  Apart from being only a couple of hours drive from Sydney or 40 minutes north of Newcastle....once you arrive you have a huge choice of either land based or water based whale watching experiences to choose from.

Locations like Tomaree Headland, Fishermans Bay and Stockton Beach are the perfect spots for avid whale watchers but... our favourite spot would have to be the sleepy seaside village of Boat Harbour. From the end Blanch Street, it's an easy stroll to the rocky headland where you can sit and wait for the whales as they head north along Stockton Bight. The whales can come in quite close as they make their way past the headland.

A minimum whale watch sighting would be a puff of spray jetting skyward above a dark rounded mass surrounded by breaking water.  Lucky spectators will be treated to an hour of tail slapping, flipper waving and spectacular leaps out of the water.

Charter boats take groups of people out into the blue waters of Port Stephens for a closer encounter.  Stopping the required distance of a hundred metres away from a whale, the boat will cut its engines if the whale approaches.  This is a truly amazing experience and one that you wont forget in a hurry. The whales will be passing right by our coast through until mid November... so you still have time to see them!

Select up to six additional property features in order of preference with 1 being the highest, 2 being the next and so on. Properties having the closest match will appear first in the results. Properties that have an exact match with your selection will show the wording 100% match in the search results. Properties that are not an exact match but have some of your selected features will show under the wording 'the following properties don't match the requirements exactly...' and will display the percentage match.
